Keeping your commercial building carpets clean increases the longevity of your carpet.
Keeping your commercial building carpets clean increases the longevity of your carpet. There are daily, monthly, and annual ways to keep your carpet clean and looking new. While these tasks may seem almost too repetitive, this system of continual cleaning will save you both time and money in the future. Replacing carpet not only is costly, but it also takes time and can interrupt normal business hours. Best Practices for Cleaning Your Commercial Carpeting

Fire Restoration in McDonald, OH
12/8/2021 (Permalink)
There are many factors that can cause a fire in a commercial building, and it is important to be aware of them.
Restoration after a fire isn’t a subject commonly thought about. Interesting enough, according to FEMA.gov, “From 2014 to 2016, an estimated 100,300 nonresidential building fires were reported to United States fire departments each year and caused an estimated 90 deaths; 1,350 injuries; and $2.4 billion in property losses per year.” Fires in commercial buildings are certainly not uncommon. There are many factors that can cause a fire in a commercial building, and it is important to be aware of them.
Common Causes of Fires in Non-Residential Buildings
Once the most common causes of commercial fires are known, only then it is possible to drastically reduce them from occurring. Here are the most common reasons commercial building fires are started provided by charleston-sc.gov,
- Cooking - Kitchen fires in restaurants are the most common source of fire in non-residential buildings, often because the grease traps, hood suppression system, and exhaust vents for commercial stoves, broilers, and deep fat fryers are not properly cleaned and maintained.
- Electrical and Heating Malfunctions – Worn electrical cords and faulty wiring are also a major cause of commercial fires.
- Arson - Intentional fire-setting in abandoned buildings, especially in the current economic climate, provide an easy target for fire setters. Don't let these hazards kill or injure firefighters.
- Smoking - Even in a smoke-free building, you can't watch what your employees do all the time. It only takes one cigarette to start a fire. Many historic hotel fires, and the Sofa Super Store fire, were started by someone smoking cigarettes.
- Improper Storage - Most fires in storage properties are not in warehouses but are in garages, barns, silos, and small outbuildings. Many fires are started when flammable materials are stored too close to a heat source.

Essential Property Selling Advice
9/24/2020 (Permalink)
Make sure your furniture allows for easy traffic flow and shows the purpose of each room.
When selling your house or property, most people have one goal in mind: get as much money as you can for what you have to offer.
SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County is here to offer some friendly advice so you can sell your property quickly and get the money you are hoping for!
Curb Appeal Matters
Look at your property from the outside. If you were to drive by, would you want to buy it? Pull out weeds, rake the leaves, and trim large trees and shrubbery, especially if they are blocking windows or paths. A power washing to the outside can also make a big difference.
Paint
Add a fresh coat of paint to the front door, so potential buyers feel like your house screams, “Welcome Home!” Try to use neutral colors to make your home appear brighter, larger, and more appealing to potential buyers.
Minor Repairs
Most people just want to sell their house, “as is.” This can have both pros and cons depending on the type of repairs needed. Potential buyers often overestimate the amount of money required to fix problems. Small fixes such as squeaky hinges, leaky faucets, and old screens can make all the difference in the eyes of the buyer.
Declutter and Rearrange
A clean, clutter free kitchen is a must in home staging. Make sure your furniture allows for easy traffic flow and shows the purpose of each room. Less is more. Pack up personal belongings and photographs. Remember, you are trying to sell your house, not your stuff.
Once everything is shiny and clean, it is time to emotionally let go of the home and let potential buyers inside.
If you need help getting your home or property ready for the market, SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County is here for you! We can power wash, clean windows, restore water or fire damage, and the list goes on.

Here to Help with Commercial Fires in Warren, Ohio
2/20/2020 (Permalink)
Call our team of fire restoration professionals and we will help make any damage “Like it never even happened.”
When your commercial building incurs a fire, you may be faced with lots of emotions, questions, and decisions to make. Recently, we received a call from a commercial property owner going through this exact process.
Read below to find out how SERVPRO was able to assist the business owner during their time of stress and need.
It was an early Sunday afternoon and I received a call from a business owner who was frantic. He walked into his building that morning with a feeling of helplessness as he examined the fire damage that had occurred overnight. Although the structural damage was mild, there was a considerable amount of soot and smoke damage throughout the facility. I assured the caller we would provide an immediate response and assist them every step of the way throughout this daunting process.
What Next?
Upon arriving on the scene, I met with the customer and toured their labor of love. The facility was not huge, it’s run by a handful of wonderful people whom all appear to be family but are not. Each of them looking at me for a determination, a timeline, hope! “How bad is it?” “Can we continue production?” “Will we be out of work?” “How can we help?”
These are just a few of the questions swirling around. It was in this exact moment that I start doing what I do best and initiating what SERVPRO does best. I begin to answer their questions. By listening intently, I learned what was most important to them and what priorities were at the top of their list.
Armed with their concerns and an understanding of how important their facility was to them, I began to plan, guide, recommend, project and most of all disperse resources. Almost immediately, the SERVPRO crews mobilize with equipment and begin their efforts to make the damage “Like it never even happened.”
More Than Just A Job
The customers were looking at me for answers… regarding insurance, lost wages, lost revenue.
“How are we going to heat the building?” “What if the pipes freeze?”
SERVPRO has an abundance of state-of-the-art resources available. From skilled technicians, equipment, technology, tools and vendors. All designed to assist in making every restoration project a seamless one. So, when the factory needs heat, SERVPRO heats it. When the heaters need fuel, SERVPRO fuels the heaters. If the pipes are frozen, SERVPRO has plumbers on call to repair that also.
As for the smoke and soot I previously mentioned, the highly trained professionals at SERVPRO will meticulously clean and deodorize every square inch regardless of how big or small the area. While doing so, we also assist in helping the customer maintain a normal flow of their day to day operations by using containment. As the project progresses, I’m thrilled just being a part of assisting these amazing people.
SEVRPRO is always here to help. When fire or water strike, we help your get back to normal as quickly as possible, as thoroughly as you need! Call our team of professionals and we will also help you make any damage “Like it never even happened.”

Sick Building Syndrome: Myth or Reality?
1/8/2020 (Permalink)
If you have the feeling that your property may be suffering from ‘Sick Building Syndrome’, call SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County
Do you find yourself suffering from headaches, fatigue or difficulty concentrating while at work? Are your co-workers complaining of dry, itchy, irritated skin? Do these symptoms seem to appear while you are isolated in a building or even a single room at the workplace?
Most people do not easily correlate their symptoms as work/building related at all. They may just write it off as an inexplicable coincidence. But likely, it’s not a mere coincidence. There is a phenomenon known as ‘Sick Building Syndrome’, and it can be responsible for the symptoms noted earlier. The severity of the symptoms may be in direct correlation to the amount of time spent in that building or room.
As a commercial restoration company, SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County specializes in keeping buildings clean and free of chemical or biological contaminants. Some of the reasons ‘Sick Building Syndrome’ occurs has to do with a buildup of indoor and outdoor contaminants.
Indoor causes can stem from carpet adhesives beginning to deteriorate, pesticides may accumulate, and antiquated wood products may begin to breakdown. Outdoor causes are usually pollutants stemming from ventilation problems within the building resulting in poor air quality. Mother nature can play a role in ‘Sick Building Syndrome’ as well. Animal infestation, mold resulting from water leaks and air borne pollen can compound the issue.
SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County can assist in the effort to bring your building back to a healthier status. As experts in Odor Removal and Deodorization, SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County uses IICRC Standards to identify and eliminate these odors.
If you have the feeling that your property may be suffering from ‘Sick Building Syndrome’, call SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County at (330) 392-6355 to schedule an appointment. This can be a ‘tricky’ undertaking, so leave the restoration to us!

Taking the time to meet with your agent to review your coverage will help you decide if your policy is still adequate.
This month is National Preparedness Month on the calendar. This of course is just a reminder that being prepared is key to responding effectively and efficiently to commercial property losses.
One way to stay prepared is to have an annual check-in with your insurance agent. Taking the time to meet with your agent to review your coverage will help you decide if your policy is still adequate. As your business, facilities and assets evolve, the question becomes…are you fully covered?
Insurance companies have many endorsements you can add to a basic commercial policy that helps cover the inconveniences left from the severe weather we have in Northeast Ohio. The fact is, the weather can produce damages that we may never have thought possible.
There are extremes such as high winds and hail damaging roofs and tearing off shingles and fascia. Also, torrential down pours that overpower drainage systems and cause sewer and drain back ups in many basements.
SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County works around the clock to make sure our restoration services are exactly what is needed for your commercial property.
We offer a special service called “Emergency Ready Profile” (ERP) for any commercial client. This no cost service is a digital profile of their facilities on a smart phone or tablet that helps businesses respond quicker and become more prepared for a storm event.
No matter what damage may be done or at what time of day it occurs, the ERP App on your phone keeps you connected to help. SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County is right at the tip of your finger.

Commercial Cleaning Services in Trumbull County
3/28/2019 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County offers an array of services that meets the needs of any commercial business
When choosing a commercial cleaning service, one of the factors to consider is the extent of services offered by the cleaning and restoration company. The decision is an important one because you are entrusting your business’s appearance to someone else.
Some companies use janitorial staffing for (general) surface cleaning like vacuuming or wiping down a restroom. Deep cleaning of the carpets, walls, air ducts and more, are not the type of services building owners have on their mind everyday.
SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County offers an array of services that meets the needs of any commercial business seeking full service cleaning. From the ceiling to the floor, SERVPRO can do more!
Available Services:
Carpet Cleaning
Heavy trafficked areas can leave carpets with built-up soil that can become unsightly and difficult to clean. Carpets trap dust, dirt, and other bacteria, creating a potentially unhealthy environment for employees. SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County utilizes a few techniques to clean carpets and upholstery.
Bonnet Cleaning, preconditioning and rinsing, as well as dry cleaning, are all gentler ways of getting deep to the dirt. Hot water extraction is used to target the tougher areas.
Floors
Floors endure high traffic and grime buildup as well. Sweeping and mopping are sufficient for surface cleaning but are not always adequate in removing heavy dirt. We clean tile and hardwood flooring by safely sanitizing the surface and grout with state of the art equipment and 'environmentally green' cleaning agents.
Walls
Walls will collect dirt from touch, smoke and grease. A great deal of this is disbursed through your HVAC system. SERVPRO will clean walls without compromising the paint or finish. SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County uses proprietary cleaning products to safely and effectively clean ceilings and walls.
HVAC & Duct Cleaning
Indoor air quality is a big concern of many people. Employees spend a majority of their day indoors and should be able to enjoy a dust-free, mold-free, clean air environment.
HVAC systems and air ducts are usually ignored when routine maintenance is performed. Ventilation system cleaning is necessary to maintain the proper air quality and to ensure proper functioning of the system.
SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County has the experience and know-how to inspect the ductwork of a commercial building to determine the extent of the cleaning needed.

Differentiating the SERVPRO Emergency Ready Profile
2/26/2019 (Permalink)
Call SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County for your "no cost" preparedness plan
Have you ever heard one of your employees say, "I know we have a binder for that, it's here somewhere." Those words are routinely heard in the commercial business world when referring to the storage methods of plans and processes.
Emergency Ready Profiles (ERPs) are amongst the list and are routinely found in a bulging, three-ring binder. It wouldn't be reasonable to permit employees to enter a burning building or to wade through flooded rooms to retrieve the emergency response binder.
The SERVPRO ERP is different. It's a digitized plan that travels with those who need it most. The immediacy of accessing emergency response plans from your mobile device helps minimize business interruption and provides the critical information needed to begin mitigation services. It contains the necessary information and serves as a quick reference to important aspects of your building.
It seems most disasters occur in the middle of the night or while you're away on vacation. Nevertheless, an ERP from SERVPRO allows you to respond immediately from wherever you are. Action steps can begin with a quick phone call to a SERVPRO close by and the work of mitigating the damage can begin.
The latest research suggests that as much as 50% of businesses close down following a disaster. Of those that survive, the majority had preparedness plans in place. A "no cost" assessment of your facility can be done by contacting SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County at (330)392-6355.

Ice Dam Roof Leak Commercial Building Cleanup and Restoration
12/20/2018 (Permalink)
What is an Ice Dam?
An ice dam is a accumulation of ice in a gutter or on the edge of the roof that forces water against the grade of the roof and into a home or business.
Ice dams can also form around skylights, vents or valleys in the roof.
Ice dams form when heat from inside the structure rises through the ceiling and warms the roof. Snow falls on the heated parts of the roof and melts. The melted snow then flows down the roof until it reaches the part of the roof that is lower than 32°F. The water freezes and begins to form an ice dam.
As more snow melts and refreezes, the ice dam can grow larger and pools behind the large wall of ice.
Over time the water works its way through the shingles or other roofing materials and flows through the roof decking down through the ceiling, interior walls and other parts of the structure.
If left unresolved, the water damage can lead to microbial growth.
If you notice an ice dam and water intrusion to your home or business this winter, call SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County 330-392-6355
Our highly-trained cleanup & restoration professionals have the experience and resources available to help make ice dam damage "Like it never even happened."

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your commercial property, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.
Smoke and soot facts:
- Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
- Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
- The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.
Different Types of Smoke
There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:
Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber
- Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.
Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood
- Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.
Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire
- Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.
Our Fire Damage Restoration Services
Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions. Ice Dams in Austintown, Ohio
12/28/2017 (Permalink)
How Do Ice Dams Form?
Usually after a snow storm there is a pile of snow sitting on the roof above your attic. After the weather warms above 32 degrees Fahrenheit to melt the under layer of the snow it causes the top layer to form into a mound of ice.
Damages They Cause:
After the ice dam reaches its full capacity, the melted water begins to seep underneath the shingles along with dripping into the insulation and down to the ceilings.
How to Remove the Ice Dams?
Removing ice dams can easily lead to damages even if extremely careful. To efficiently remove the ice dams call a professional to prevent damages to your shingles.
Prevention:
To keep your home safe try one of these tips-
A simple prevention method is simply scraping the snow off of the roof the day it falls.
Another way to prevent ice dams is by installing heated cables before the winter begins.

3/28/2017 (Permalink)
The EPA states:
You should consider having the air ducts in your home cleaned if-
- There is substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system.
- Ducts are infested with vermin, e.g. (rodents or insects)
- Ducts are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.
Some research also suggests that cleaning dirty cooling coils, fans and heat exchangers can improve the efficiency of heating and cooling systems.
SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County professionals routinely inspect the heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit (HVAC). Keeping them clean can extend the life of the equipment. This can in turn save you money and give you cleaner air to breathe.
