The Color Says It All

When you have water damage in your home or commercial business, you may not know right away where it is from or just how dangerous it is.
The color of the water damage you are seeing can help clue you in to what type of damage you are dealing with. All three categories of water damage should be treated in a timely manner and should be taken seriously to avoid further threats to your business, home or yourself and your family.
Category 1:
If you see clear water damage this is usually a sign of flooding. This damage is non-toxic and not dangerous to humans but it can be very messy and damaging to the items in your space. This type of water damage can be caused by a sink or tub overflowing, or falling rainwater or melting snow / ice.
Category 2:
If you are noticing a cloudy or grey colored water, this type of water damage could contain chemicals or a potentially dangerous contaminant. This damage should not be consumed or exposed for very long. This damage could be caused by water discharge from appliances like dishwashers or an aquarium.
Category 3:
If the water damage is dark and black, this could be a very harmful bacteria that could contain fungi or dangerous contaminants like silt, pesticides or heavy metal. This type of damage can come from toilet backflow, seawater or sewage.
All of this damage can come from a variety of sources however, the area should be cleaned, treated and sanitized differently by professionals.
